May I have some manga with that crab?
Just two blocks from Fisherman's Wharf, newly merged VIZ Media is cooking up Japanese animation in the renovated Powell Theater. The 25-person outfit is the combination of ShoPro Entertainment and VIZ LLC, the U.S. arms of two powerhouse Japanese animation firms.

"In Japan, this is huge news," said John Easum, senior vice president of ShoPro Entertainment. "It's like saying Warner Bros. and Disney decided to get along." The new entertainment company aims to ride the growing popularity of Japanese manga, or comic books, and animation in the United States, with publishing, animated content for TV, theaters, home video, video games and consumer products.
