'Bakugan' Returns to Primetime Saturday Nights on the Cartoon Network
Date: 11/6/2009
The Bakugan Battle Brawlers anime series, long a staple of early mornings on the Cartoon Network, is back in primetime. This week a new episode of Bakugan airs at 7pm (ET, PT) on Saturday night. Toonami Infolink reports that starting November 14th, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds will take the 7 pm slot with Bakugan moving to 7:30 pm. This scheduling change in no way represents the return of the old anime-heavy Toonami block, but it?s still more anime than the Cartoon Network has had in prime time in quite a while. The CN?s last major anime outpost remains late night on Saturday nights with back-to-back episodes of Bleach airing at 12:30am followed by two episodes of Full Metal Alchemist, and single eps of Moribito, Ghost in the Shell, Blood Plus, the Big O, and Inuyasha.

Although the licensed Bakugan toys don?t have quite the heat that they did last holiday season when they made all the hot toy lists (see ?Toy Wishes Hot Dozen for 2008?), they remain popular. Del Rey?s cel-based full color film comics based directly on the anime series have been consistent bestsellers. The primetime exposure on the Cartoon Network should help sales of both the Bakugan toys and the Del Rey cine-manga, but the CN?s schedules are notoriously subject to change.

The highly ?toyetic? Bakugan property has also been licensed by Universal for a feature film (see ?Bakugan Movie Deal Signed?).
