Kids Products Testing Delayed Until 2011
Date: 12/29/2009
The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission announced a delay in enforcement of testing and certification rules for kids products until February 2011. The delay means that toy companies won?t have to begin having certified third party testing labs perform the tests until that time, and can rely on manufacturer or their own tests. This is the third delay on this reg, which was originally scheduled to take effect in February of 2009.

The tests are designed to ensure that children?s products don?t include harmful amounts of lead or phthalates.

The Commission also approved new rules allowing testing of components of a product at different times, rather than testing everything at one lab at one time.
