Harlequin Manga from Dark Horse

According to a press release issued by Harlequin Enterprises, Dark Horse will release manga based on Harlequin romance novels.

The manga, which were illustrated in Japan, are based on existing Harlequin stories. In a partnership with Ohzora Publishing of Japan, 250 such Harlequin Manga have been published in Japan.

Now Dark Horse will adapt the Harlequin manga into English and distribute them in the United States, Canada, U.K. and Australia under a new label, "Harlequin Ginger Blossom." The label will be split into two lines, a "pink" line, which is aimed at younger readers, and a "violet" line, intended for more mature readers.

The first Harlequin Manga from Dark Horse will be Harlequin Ginger Blossom: A Girl in a Million written by Betty Neels with art by Kako Itoh, and Harlequin Ginger Blossom: Response written by Penny Jordan with art by Takako Hashimoto. Both are due to be released in December 2005.

The current deal calls for two more Harlequin manga to be released in each line, for a total of six releases.
