Date: 1/18/2011
Summit Entertainment has hired screenwriters Erich and Jon Hoeber to write the script for a sequel to Red, the action/comedy film which starred Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, and John Malkovich as former CIA agents, who are classified as ?Retired, Extremely Dangerous.? Red, which was based on the comic book series written by Warren Ellis, illustrated by Cully Hammer and published by DC/Wildstorm, earned over $90 million at the North American box office and over $165 million worldwide.

Variety is reporting that Summit has a deal with the Hoeber brothers, who are also writing Universal?s adaptation of Hasbro?s Battleship game, and who penned the script for the first Red film, which was directed by Robert Schwentke.

Red was the only DC-based movie of 2010 that was not produced by DC?s sister company Warner Bros., and it was the second highest grossing comic book-based film of the year trailing only Iron Man 2.
