'Hugo,' 'Tintin' Win Golden Globes Best Director, Animated Feature

Two films based on graphic novels won Golden Globe Awards on Sunday. Martin Scorsese won his third Best Director Golden Globe Award for the 3D film Hugo, based on Brian Selznick?s The Invention of Hugo Cabret. And Steven Spielberg?s The Adventures of Tintin, the 3D film based on a Herge graphic novel, won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature.

Golden Globes are probably most important as possible indicators of Oscar winners, which can have a significant impact on box office and DVD sales. The fact that two graphic novel-based films won Golden Globes, both from A-list directors, is a sign that Hollywood reception of comic-based films is moving beyond superhero fare to other genres.
