A special exhibit of the works of Leiji Matsumoto entitled The world of Matsumoto Reiji - Longing for the Stars - Dreaming of the Future" recently opened recently at the Sashima Museum Muse in Bando city (Ibaraki). The display ends on November the 27th.

Matsumoto is one of Japan's most famous manga-ka, internationally renowned for hit manga like "Ginga tetsudo 999" (Galaxy Express 999) and "Uchu Senkan Yamato" (Space Battleship Yamato).

The exhibit is being held in conjunction with a regularly occurring star-gazing event. Since opening in 1997, the star-watching-events have been taking place 10 times a year. This time, the star viewing was planned in accord with the special exhibit. Matsumoto's most famous series all take place in space and the co-ordinated event is said to be organized "To nourish the citizens dreams of the future."

About 100 items are displayed, from TV-anime cells to manga, illustrations and posters, etc. Among these are a copy of Matsumoto's 1954 debut work "Mitsubachi no Boken" (The Bees Adventures) and a reproduction of the comic manuscript for Galaxy Express.

On November 12th Matsumoto will hold a special lecture at the museum.
