Date: 5/19/2006
A new Yomiuri piece talks about China's recent initiatives to help grow it's own domestic animation industry. The Chinese government is to announce measures to support the production of more domestic animation in the hope of developing the business into an export industry, following the success of Japanese anime. According to a Chinese Web site showing animation from various countries, including China, 60 percent of young Chinese polled said they liked Japanese anime most, while 29 percent of respondents said they liked animation produced in Europe and the United States. Only 11 percent of those questioned said they liked animation produced in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
