UC-Irvine Brings Anime into Academia

Extension class taught by instructor who pitched Battle Angel Alita to Fox

"Manga & Anime Explosion: What, Why, How & Wow!? is the newest class to be added to the University of California-Irvine's Extension program.

Northrop Davis, a screenwriter who pitched Battle Angel Alita to 20th Century Fox (when it was then acquired for James Cameron), will teach the class.

According to the press release, the new class will "look at the historical and cultural significance of these two art forms and how they have shaped the look and feel of many of today?s Hollywood productions," and is aimed at both "screenwriters" and "passionate fans."

It is scheduled to run September 26-October 24 on Tuesday evenings from 7-10 p.m. The cost to register is $185.
