Ookiku Furikabutte TV Series Announced
Date: 1/5/2007
Asa Higuchi's seinen baseball manga Ookiku Furikabutte will be adapted to TV animation, debuting next spring in Japan. This month's issue of Animedia Magazine (due out on the 10th) is expected to contain a major article on the new work. Confirmed staff are Director Tsutomu Mizushima, Script Writer Yousuke Kuroda and Character Designer Takahiko Yoshida. Animation Production will come through A-1 Pictures Inc. and TBS will broadcast. The original comic is serialized in Kodansha's Afternoon, 6 collected volumes now exist on the Japanese market. TBS's official website is www.tbs.co.jp/anime/oofuri/ and the official website is www.oofuri.com. Adapting sports genre manga to animation in Japan can often be a dicey affair and when it comes to selling such a production overseas, we're talking a whole other matter but there is quite a bit of hope riding on Ookiku Furikabutte's success. Besides being voted the number one baseball comic of all time in one poll, it also won the Tezuka Cultural Award in May 2006 for showing new possibilities of expression in baseball manga.
