Laughing Man Logo Creator Revealed

Japanese Webzine UK Adapta interviewed British artist Paul Nicholson (aka: TERRATAG). He's best known to anime fans for being contracted by Production I.G. to create the logo of Ghost In The Shell: Standalone Complex super hacker The Laughing Man. Subsequently, the marque has gotten out online being co-opted for an infinite number of uses in the otaku world from BBS avatars, to convenient masks to block out faces in digital images. Nicholson was born in southern Britain in 1970. His drew alot of influence from graffiti art and studied Japanese calligraphy in school. In 2002 he started the TERRATAG fashion label. He did a character design concept in the second Ghost In The Shell film: Innocence. He has an office setup in London currently where he is working as a graphic artist. After doing the Laughing Man logo his name has spread to prominent art circles throughout the UK. His work offers also drastically increased, most recently he did a design for the techno group Aphex Twin. Lately Nicholson has been working on a camouflage design that integrates Japanese characters. The artist is an admitted Gundam fan, gunpla builder and Japanese toy collector. He may be collaborating with a Japanese artist soon and hopes to open a studio in Japan.
