Shochiku Shows Off 2 New Anime Films At Berlin

The official Shochiku website lists English summaries and images for several films it was soliciting at recently wrapped 57th Berlin International Film Festival's European Film Marquette. The EFM was held for one week from the 8th-18th. Besides the live action Kitaro, and Love And Berry, 2 previously unannounced anime films were unveiled. The family oriented SUMMER DAYS WITH COO (working title) (original title: Kappa no Coo to Natsuyasumi) is directed by Keiichi Hara ("Crayon Shin-chan") According to the summary: Here is the forest between the world of human beings and imaginary animals. In an underground apartment, two rabbits lead happy lives. The story often seems heartwarming, but at the same, brings a cynical laughter. The film was screened twice at the show. According to this page it's currently scheduled for a July 28th, 2007 theatrical release in Japan.

VEXILLE is directed by Fumihiko Sori (PING PONG, Producer - APPLESEED). The summary reads: From the creators of APPLESEED, comes a Full CG animation Sci-Fi Action film. 2077 - 10 years has passed since Japan had decided to leave the United Nations to go into isolation. They have completely blocked the islands with an ultra magnetic field which prevents anyone to see what is going inside, nor for people to travel in/out of the country. This was a result to opposing to a treaty which UN has passed, preventing the development of all bio and robot technology which has evolved drastically and has become a threat to the human beings. When Japan finally begins to move, the US government sends in a special force team SWORD, lead by a female commander Vexille, to investigate what is really happening inside the closed country. Genre: ACTION / CGI Animation According to this page it's scheduled for an August 2007 theatrical release in Japan. A preview was held via private screening at the event.
