NTV Sees A Winner In Free Manga Magazine Comic

Nippon Television Network Corporation announced on the 26th that it had invested 160 Million Yen in Dejima, the company founded by former Dentsu venture capitalist Akihiko Kai which publishes Japan's first free cartoon magazine "Comic Gumbo". After it's launch over a month ago, Gumbo and Kai, and the free manga anthology concept have remained in the Japanese headlines virtually daily. NTV wants to interlock its own properties with Gumbo in various ways. Gumbo is distrubted throughout the Tokyo metropolitan area, with a weekly circulation of about a 100,000, with distribution points centering on main stations along the JR Yamanote Line. NTV now holds a 16% share in the firm. In addition NTV animation division producer Toshio Nakatani who handled "NANA" and "Death Note" will assume the company position of under-executive director.
