Date: 8/28/2007
Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare surveyed 3,200 Internet and manga kissaten (cafes) across the country and reported on August 28 that 60,900 people use these 24-hour cafes daily ? with about 4,700 having no other home. The ministry then estimated that 5,400 people are "Net cafe refugees." The ministry definied Net cafe refugees as people with no fixed address who stay overnight at these cafes for over half a week. About half of them had temporary jobs, and about a quarter had no jobs. 26.5% were in their 20s. Source: Asahi. Note: This article was written and posted in a Tokyo manga cafe.
