More Animation Companies In Japan Managing Contents Rights With ERPs
Date: 2/22/2005
According to an article published in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun on Wednesday, Japan's animation houses which have previously divided elements of rights handling on contents works among many firms have began creating backbone infrastructures that eliminates the need for such outsourcing. Producers such as Toei Animation and Gonzo Digimation Holdings are 2 of the most recent to do this. The aim in such moves is the integration of domestic / foreign accounting business and copyright management etc. of animation works, thus raising operating effectiveness. Toei reportedly invested 400 million Yen or less their backbone system which will go online in April. They are using an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solution provided by Germany's SAP Co. With such a system the full international and domestic rights handlings can be mangaed under one roof (in many cases within 1 computer software program). This includes the revenue and expenditure in each medium classified by countries and media type such as DVD, Internet delivery, etc. In Toei's case they are managing 152 TV animation works and 169 movie works together with the new system. The revenue and expenditure results of each work are tallied, and the data can be used for strategic planning such as overseas deployment.
