Bandai Nabs 'Rocket Girls' 12-Episode Anime
Date: 3/27/2008
Bandai Entertainment has acquired the rights to the 12-episode Rocket Girls anime series, which is based on a series of "light" novels by Hosuke Nojiri. The anime, which aired in Japan in 2007, was produced in conjunction with the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency, and real-life Japanese astronaut Naoko Yamazaki provided the voice for her character in Episode 7 of the series.

The protagonist of the Rocket Girls anime, Yukari Morita, visits the Solomon Islands looking for her father when she is pressed into service as an astronaut by the Solomon Space Agency, which doesn't have a reliable rocket able to lift the weight of a man into orbit. Rocket Girls was directed by Hiroshi Aoyama, who was an episode director on the excellent Master Keaton anime series.
