'Appleseed' TV Series Set for 2009
Date: 4/1/2008
The animeanime.jp Website is reporting from the Tokyo Anime Fair (via Anime News Network) that Micott & Basara, the company that backed the two Appleseed movies, is producing a new 26-episode Appleseed TV series that will debut in Japan in 2009. Like the two Appleseed movies, the Appleseed TV series will be computer animated (see "Interview with Joseph Chou, Part II"). Macross mecha designer Haruhiko Mikimoto will work on character and mecha designs for the new Appleseed TV anime, which will be directed by Romanov Higa (Catblue: Dynamite).

Mikimoto's designs for the lead character of Deunan, who will be voiced by Romi Paku (Nana, FMA) and one of the original landmate mecha suits were unveiled at the Tokyo Anime Fair. Given the popularity of the two Appleseed films here in North America (see "Interview With Joseph Chou, Part I"), it's a good bet that the Appleseed TV series will get a U.S. release.
