'TDK' Dominates Scream Awards Winning an Even Dozen
Date: 10/22/2008
It shouldn?t be surprising that the most popular film of the year should win the most awards in a contest determined by Internet voting like Spike TV?s proprietary kudos, the Scream Awards. And sure enough, Christopher Nolan?s The Dark Knight made a near clean sweep taking home ?Best Comic Book Movie,? ?Best Director,? ?Best Screenplay,? ?Best FX,? ?Best Sequel,? ?Best Villain? (the Joker), ?Best Superhero? (Christian Bale as Batman), ?Best Actor? (Heath Ledger), Best Overall (?The Ultimate Scream?), ?Best Supporting Performance? (Gary Oldman), ?Holy S***! Scene of the Year? (Big Rig Flips), and ?Best Line? (the Joker?s twisted take on Nietzsche, ?Whatever doesn?t kill you, makes you stranger.?).

Marvel Studios? Iron Man was named ?Best Science Fiction Film,? and Robert Downey Jr. received the ?Best Actor in a Science Fiction Film? award. Guillermo del Toro?s Hellboy II: The Golden Army was named ?Best Fantasy Film,? and Tim Burton?s Sweeney Todd took home the ?Best Horror Film? honors. Brian K. Vaughan?s Y: The Last Man was named the ?Best Comic Book,? while Grant Morrison was designated as ?The Best Comic Book Writer? for Final Crisis, and Gabriel Ba won ?Best Comic Book Artist? for his work on The Umbrella Academy. Marvel?s X-Men comic won ?The Most Shocking Comic Book Plot Twist? for the disbanding of the X-Men after Professor Xavier is shot in the head by Bishop. Dark Horse and Joss Whedon won the ?Best Screen to Comic Adaptation? for Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8.

Other winners included Angelina Jolie (?Best Actress? for Wanted), Liv Tyler (?Best Actress in a Horror Movie? for The Strangers), Johnny Depp (?Best Actor in a Horror Movie? for Sweeney Todd), Dexter (?Best TV Show?), and Wall-E (?Breakout Performance?).
