Dynamite Gets Robocop For Original Comic Series
Date: 6/10/2009
Dynamite Entertainment has reached an agreement with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures for a new original comic series based on MGM?s Robocop movie property. Dynamite publisher Nick Barrucci talked about the creative opportunities with the series. ?What makes Robocop such an interesting canvas is that the series has always explored larger themes including gentrification, the media and human nature, all while delivering a riveting and visceral experience,? he said.

The property spawned three films and two TV series beginning in 1987 with the release of the first film, directed by Paul Verhoeven. Frank Miller co-wrote the screenplay for Robocop 2. A new Robocop movie directed by Darren Aronofsky is in development for a possible 2010 release.

Comics based on Robocop were published by Marvel and Dark Horse in the 90s, and by Avatar (ending in 2007) in this decade. Frank Miller wrote a Robocop vs. Terminator miniseries for Dark Horse, who also provided the story and covers for an Avatar Robocop miniseries.
