Stiff Sentence For Uploading Manga In Japan

After being arrested on February, 3 people were recently sentenced in Fukuoka after being convicted of breaching the Copyright Act. The trio was accused of uploading scans of popular manga to the 464.jp website. On May 17th The Fukuoka district court handed down a penalty of 500,000 Yen and a 3 year prison sentence (2 years were suspended). The Association of Copyright for Computer Software (ACCS) says that after uploading the manga, it was made available to view free of charge. 649 titles were said to have been made available such as Police Box, Touch and Takehiko Inoue's SLAM DUNK.
