'Publisher's Weekly' Sold To Former Publisher

Reed Elsevier has announced the sale of Publishers Weekly to a new company, PWxyz LLC headed by former PW publisher George Slowik, who ran the trade journal in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The deal also includes the publishersweekly.com Website and the Publishers Weekly Show Daily. The magazine?s headquarters will remain in New York and Cevin Bryerman will stay on as editor.



Early last month Reed announced the sale of Library Journal and School Library Journal to Media Source (see ?Reed Sells LJ, SLJ?). The PW deal completes the sale of Reed Elsevier?s book trade publications. In 2009 Reed began selling off its trade publications piecemeal, after failing to sell the unit as a whole (see ?PW, Playthings, Video Business For Sale?).
