Manga Continues to Dominate Bookscan Date: 6/15/2005 |

Nine of our Top Ten Selling Graphic Novels Manga -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nine out of the Top ten graphic novels sold in North American bookstores, according to Nielson Bookscan, were manga during the week ending June 5.Ranked in first spot, was the latest volume of Fruits Baskets, a manga series that has repeadtedly topped the Bookscan list with past volumes. Fruits Basket volume 9 also peaked at 74th position in the USA Today best selling book list for the the previous week (week ending May 29) and has remained in the top 150 for 3 consecutive weeks. Volume 8 achieved the series best position at 71. Second place Fullmetal Alchemist vol. 1 also broke USA Today's best seller list, peaking at 89. The only non-manga in Bookscan's list was Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith at 5th position. Revenge of the Sith, which spent several weeks at the top of the bookscan list, peaked at 47 on USA Today's best seller list, higher than any manga has ever reached.
