A Retailer's experience with FMACCG
Date: 10/19/2005
We're an 'anime' store, not a gaming store per se. We decided to carry card games originally just as 'add-ons' to our regular merchandise. I personally am an old school card gamer, so I figured that they might sell a couple packs.

Then we played FMA.

The game is easily the best CCG I've played in years. We actually sat down and tried to 'break' it ("do the rares overpower?" "Is one faction always overplayed?" "Which cards obviously made it past the playtesters?"), and we couldn't. It was a good solid game, and I took it upon myself to buy a box of starters and pull all the Uncommons and Commons as 'store freebies'.

Whenever a new player first got into it (Starter + 3-6 boosters), we'd take a look at the cards they got and gave them commons and uncommons to flesh out a couple strategies. That's worked wonders, and we have a lot of store loyalty, and we cannot keep FMA in for more than two days out of the week, so many new players and old buyers wiping us out.

As an example: We've sold four times as much FMA as we have all other anime-license card games combined, and we've got four booster boxes going on the shelf today - they'll sell out by noon. As an anime store, we never expected to sell collectible cards, but FMA is such a good game it has created an entire new subsection of customers. FMA has done SO well here, after this last order, we are going directly to JoyRide to order them wholesale - ordering four booster boxes at a time just isn't cutting it, we sell out in an hour.

The FMA TCG has brought us tons of customers, all of whom now buy the manga, DVD, and play at the store as well, allowing us to move both snack and drink product, as well as other 'sundry' items that dwelling customers pick up on a whim. All in all, FMA TCG brings us hundreds of revenue a week from people who come in mainly to buy boosters, but pick up other things 'while they are there'. In fact, while I was typing this to you, someone came in, bought six boosters, some snacks, two sodas (to drink while playing), and went 'oh, you have this new show in?' (we're an anime store, not a conventional gaming store) and picked up a box of that - over sixty dollars in additional impulse buy, from one customer, in one instance.

Multiply it by the twenty hardcore FMA players here, and you can see why we are so happy to carry your game.

Thanks again for the wonderful product, you've brought us an entire new class of customer - the discerning TCG gamer.
