Tokyopop's 'Hellgate: London' Manga Based on the Flagship Studios PC Game
Date: 2/27/2006
Tokyopop and Flagship Studios have announced an agreement to create a manga based on the highly anticipated computer game, Hellgate: London. Tokyopop is an industry leader in the creation of original English language (OEL) manga. In 2005 Tokyopop's Warcraft manga, which is also based on a popular game franchise, was the best-selling OEL title in the North American bookstore market and ranked #12 among the Top 50 Manga Properties in ICv2's most recent Retailers Guide to Anime/Manga. Tokyopop plans to release the Hellgate: London manga on the same date that the Hellgate: London game is unleashed -- which should be sometime in 2006 though the Flagship's Studio's Website will only say: "Our current release target is 'when it's done.'"

Hellgate: London is a highly randomized action computer role-playing game with stuning graphics played primarily from the first person perspective. The game is set in a near future London, where, thanks to a demonic invasion, mankind has been driven to seek refuge in the Underground. Hellgate: London represents first major gaming release for Flagship Studios, which was formed in 2003 by former executives and developers from Blizzard North, who created the best-selling Diablo franchise.

One measure of the quality of the character design for the Hellgate:London game is provided by the fact that WETA Collectibles will be producing figures based on some of the various demons from the game.
