iMaid Caf? in Toronto Features French Maids and Bubble Tea

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A japanese style maid-cafe has opened in Scarborough Ontario. iMaid Caf? was launched by Aaron Wang, a 24-year-old student of Economics at York University.

Like any maid cafe, iMaid Caf? features waitresses cosplaying as maid, and treating their client?le "as if they were in their own home." However iMaid Caf? caters to a majority Chinese client?le, so rather than using the tradional "Master" by which waitresses generally address their patrons at Japanese mad cafe's, the waitresses at iMaid Caf? address their client?le with "Shang-di," a traditional Chinese appellation. Litterally, "Shang-di" means "god" however it doesn't infer that the client?le are gods, but rather that they are receiving service fit for a god.

Wang to a year sabbatical from his studies at York University to launch iMaid Caf?, which opened in the summer.

Aside from the cosplay (Wang says some customers arrive in cosplay as well), iMaid Caf? is more of a Chinese-Canadian twist on a Japanese theme than a Japanese themed restaurant. Chinese music and TV plays in the background, the menu features bubble-tea as well as traditional Chinese food and North American food.
