JASRAC To Meet With YouTube In February

On the 25th JASRAC clarified executives of YouTube will come to Japan in the beginning of February to discuss matters and request countermeasures related to illegal video contributions to the site. 23 groups in Japan have announced they are jointly undertaking the advancing of countermeasures to illegal video uploads. Their requests achieved about 30,000 file deletions on YouTube in October, 2006. In addition a formal letter was sent to the company in December. Mizuo Sugawara of JASRAC mentioned that both the CEO and CTO YouTube along with a representative of Google will be in Japan on the week of February 5th. JASRAC backs the implementation of a system that can prevent the contribution of pirated contents to YouTube. What they propose is 3fold: A caution warning in Japanese, the registration of a users name and address, a "3 strikes and you're out" policy on video upload accounts found to have contributed pirated material.
