Distant Star's Shinkai Creates Ad for Hometown's Paper

Makoto Shinkai, the one-man animation crew of the Voices of a Distant Star video and the director of The Place Promised in Our Early Days movie, created a commercial for The Shinano Mainichi Shimbun paper in his home prefecture of Nagano. Two versions are available online. The commercial spotlights the world's first hybrid electric train at Shinkai's hometown, K?mi. Ironically, Shinkai's latest film, 5 Centimeters per Second, did not have a theatrical release in his home prefecture; volunteers had to arrange a community center showing in Sakushi, a city near K?mi, on August 14.
