Canada's CBC Airs Spirited Away with Edits for Time
Date: 10/1/2007
Zannen, Canada reports that the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) public broadcaster substantially edited its September 30 airing of Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away fantasy film to fit in a two-hour timeslot with commercials. The edits reportedly include the removal of entire scenes, including the scene of the polluted water spirit and the last three minutes of the film. To ANN's knowledge, this was the first over-the-air broadcast of the film in North America; it previously ran on the Turner Classic Movies channel and the Cartoon Network on cable and satellite in the United States.
