Date: 3/14/2005
Newcomer Digital Tokiwa (http://d-tokiwa.jp/) has announced their first animated film will be almost completely computer produced with a planned summer release in Japan. The Osaka based studio took their name from the apartment "Tokiwa" in Tokyo where names such as Osamu Tezuka and Fujiko Fujio gathered when they were young in the 1950's. The company was established last spring, the president is Masaru Kamada. Making use of the latest CG techniques, "TANK S.W.A.T.01 (tank Special Weapons And Tactics Zero-1)" based on the original concept by Masamune Shirow will see it's premiere in Osaka on the 18th. The SF tale takes place in a near future Kobe where police girls protect the law with a special tank regiment. A brokerage firm, Osaka City, and Osaka Prefecture, etc. are participating in the planning. Likewise a fund has been established for the production cost.
