Japanese Prime Minister Needs More Manga Time Touts Exports
Date: 10/30/2008
Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso made a speech in Tokyo?s famous Akihabara district, home of otaku culture, on Sunday in which he complained about not having enough time to read manga in his new job (see ?Manga Fan Becomes Prime Minister?), according to AFP. He said he?d finished two of his weekly magazines, but still had two to go.

On a more serious note, Aso touted the strength of Japan?s exports of manga and anime, noting, ?Japan?s subculture of animation has been overwhelmingly accepted in the world.? He was well received, according to the report, with his supporters chanting ?Aso, Aso, Aso? in unison.
