Politically-charged Manga Suspended in Japan
Date: 10/14/2004
The Japanese manga "Kuni ga Moeru" (The Country is Burning), written by mangaka Hiroshi Motomiya, is garnering protests for its depiction of the Nanking Atrocities. According to JapanTimes, in mid-September the comic used a photograph showing atrocities that cannot be accurately verified.

37 groups and over 200 individuals complained to Shueisha, the publisher of the manga. As a result, Shueisha has suspended the title from Weekly Young Jump, and will be editing the manga when it is released in tankoubon/graphic novel format.
